Inspector Gadget? I Wish....

Dear Readers;

 There is nothing worse than starting your day off by seeing Bob Glover,Regulatory Inspector of the Agriculture Regulatory Programs...at your front door. You see Mr. Glovers job is to follow up complaints about animal abuse. Apparently for the second winter running one of our very kind,loving, caring neighbours have phoned in to say that our cows are being abused because we let them out into the yard to eat hay and drink warm water. These same people are usually the ones who share a MacDonalds hamburger with their lap dog. The local gossipers also said that the Buddhist Monks horses were being confiscated due to abuse. Liar...liar...pants on fire! 4th Commandment is.......?
  The Island has about 40% of people employed directly or indirectly by the government. Unemployment rate is very high with summer job creation leaving idle minds to conjure up stories and gossip...all winter long. The saying is an idle mind is the devils workshop.

Mr. Glover also said that people are no longer connected to farms. In the past either their parents or a relative owned a farm so they were more aware of the needs of large animals.He said that people may see the cows eating hay in the barn yard in the morning. (We let them out so we can muck out the barn...if it is stormy we let them back in right away.) If they come back at night and they can't see anything...they assume the animals are still outside. (They are tucked into a warm,dry barn). The next morning the cycle continues...we let the animals out to eat and drink...the neighbours see them out again....and now they are thinking that the animals are always out...suffering.

We stopped by to speak to the local Veterinarian to ask him if he thought our animals were well taken care of because he was just over a couple days before to take care of Urvashi. He said that people are just clueless about farm animal care. Cows should not be kept in barns for long because barns are generally damp and cause illness. It is better for the  cows be left to roam around the fields....even in winter. They humanize their dogs and think that all animals should be treated like humans. He's so nice...he said that if anyone gives us any trouble that he will speak to them and educate them himself:)

Anyways this is what me and the cows think about lousy neighbors and government officials who harass us for no good reason.
Hare Krsna.
