Friends=Community

Dear Readers;

 Gaura Nitai and I spend most of the day in the barn. We've been trying to find remedies to heal Urvashi of ketosis. Ketosis is a disease that can strike newly lactating cows and especially cows that have given birth more that 6 times.

 There are many problems to solve but the one that we need to deal with immediately is to keep the cow from crawling into awkward positions where she can cause herself some injuries. Let me tell you...moving a 1000 lb animal is not very easy. Fortunately we roped in some unsuspecting friends who dropped in to pick up some Om-Made Soap. Together we all came up with a plan on how to move the cow and put her in a sling. The sling is to help her get to her feet. Although she is still too weak we will try again tomorrow. This adventure took hours to implement in temperatures about -16 degrees Celsius. Anyways it is great to have friends help out because we could have never done this ourselves. Michelle was great with calming the cow and encouraging the calves to drink. Sandra grew up on a farm and she is a nurse and knows how to move patients so she showed us how to move Urvashi onto the sling. Robert is fantastic at knots..pulleys and other manly arts;) Gaura Nitai is a jack of all trades and I record and laugh most annoyingly:P

 The temperature  plummeted to -20 degrees Celsius so we made sure to cover the cow and calves with piles of straw to keep them warm during the night.

Friends make life so much easier and bring a little bit of sunshine and laughter into what is a very depressing and overwhelming situation. Thank you Robert,Sandra, Michelle , the two farm boys,Andrew and Buddy.....

  2. Thanks Michele. We got a visit from Agricultural Inspector because someone said that we were mistreating our animals. I told him that I was going to put him in my blog and I will this evening. Neighbors spying on each other....exactly what the government wants them to do. This is the second time in two years.
